TBG HONORED WITH THREE AWARDS FROM THE
AMERICAN SOCIETY OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS – TEXAS CHAPTER
TBG awarded for its design
of Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas, Town Lake Park
and the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa
AUSTIN, Texas, March 18, 2008 –
TBG, Texas’ largest
landscape architecture and planning firm, has won three honor awards
from the American Society of Landscape Architect’s (ASLA) Texas
Chapter. TBG received honor awards for its design of Dell Children’s
Medical Center of Central Texas and Town Lake Park, both located in
Austin, and the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa, located about
30 miles southeast of Austin in Bastrop County.
TBG’s
landscape design for Dell Children’s hospital creates a playful but
healing environment for children. The project, which is seeking LEED-Platinum
certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, utilized
sustainable materials including composite wood, recycled glass and
concrete with high fly-ash content. Project elements include a
three-acre, multi-level healing garden complete with a labyrinth,
human sundial, peek-a-boo wall, reflecting pond, as well as
courtyards that represent six ecoregions, each corresponding to a
distinct area of the 46-county Central Texas region that Dell
Children’s serves.
Town
Lake Park is the first major park constructed along Lady Bird Lake
(previously Town Lake) in more than 50 years and creates a
significant gateway to downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake’s hike and
bike trail system. TBG developed an activated program and design
that incorporates amenities for various interests and age groups,
integrates the park with downtown and surrounding neighborhoods, and
accentuates views to the Austin skyline. Design elements include
pedestrian and vehicular circulation, a fountain plaza featuring
more than 100 choreographed jets complete with LED lighting that
allow for active water play both day and night, a 25' Observation
Hill that features a spiral walk leading up to an observation point
to provide magnificent 360º views of the park and the Austin
skyline, and a grand promenade linking gardens, ponds, fountains and
meadows.
For the
405-acre Hyatt Regency resort, TBG designed a resort oasis that
combines shimmering active and passive pools, with Crooked River, a
lazy river linking various amenities, waterfalls, spray fountains,
and a two-story waterslide that throws guests into a 1,000-foot long
pool. Other amenities include a sand beach, trails, common lawn,
plazas, an 18-hole golf course, a trail system connecting the resort
to the 251-acre McKinney Roughs Nature Park and an Interpretive
Center where resort guests can learn and experience the rich history
and allure of the Lost Pines Region.
