Weekly Rewind: Our favorite stories from around the web

Whataburger

Our team has been busy bees this week, which we don’t mind because we love making big things happen for our clients, but we’re definitely ready for a little breather this weekend. When work picks back up again Monday, we’ll be ready to knock it out of the park with these tips from our Weekly Rewind!

Early Bird Gets the Reporter

What time do you typically pitch to the media? If it’s one of the first tasks you do in the morning, then you’re on the right track because that’s when reporters are on the hunt for new stories.

Here are the preferred times, according to PR Daily:

  • Nearly 40 percent want to be pitched between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Another 30 percent prefer to be pitched even earlier — between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m.
  • Only 16 percent want you to flood their inboxes between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. because they’re typically running on deadline and receiving pitches can be an annoyance.

Fight Writer’s Block with These Tips

A lot of our daily PR activity involves writing, so when you find yourself in a rut — life is miserable. Luckily, there is a ton of great advice floating around the online world. One of our favorite tips from PR News Online involves reading everything and anything. A Great Week for Red Vines

Supposedly, the candy brand Red Vines had no idea they were going to get a shoutout at the Oscars last Sunday. Red Vines Director of Marketing told PR Week that her phone started blowing up when her company’s candy started falling from the sky to feed hungry A-listers. She quickly texted the company’s social media specialist and from there, the brand has been capitalizing on every moment by interacting with consumers and news outlets. It’s a great story, and a good lesson on the importance of a quick reaction!

Leave Whataburger Alone — a Friday Funny

If you’re a Texan, you probably already saw this because it involves one of our favorite things — Whataburger. The Northeast Police Department took to Facebook to say they’ve recovered a large quantity of stolen plastic order numbers that belonged to the local Whataburger. Apparently, stealing the numbers is a new pastime for teenagers. Police are asking the public to be aware of the theft and help ensure all order numbers stay at the restaurant. Check out some of the funny comments. We like this one, “Perps should be caught, sentenced and banned to McDonald’s forever!”
