New homeless housing village in Dallas improves sustainability and energy-efficiency with Demilec spray foam insulation

Supportive housing project utilizes Demilec spray foam in 50 free-standing cottages & communal spaces

The Cottages at Hickory Crossing_DemilecArlington, Texas, March 30, 2016 – On the southeast edge of downtown Dallas, The Cottages at Hickory Crossing, a $6.8-million supportive housing development consisting of 50 individual 400-square foot “tiny homes” and a 3,000-square foot on-site management building, is taking shape. The development, which strives to provide stable housing for more than four dozen chronically homeless individuals, is utilizing Demilec’s spray foam insulation in all buildings to provide year-round comfort while lowering energy costs, improving sustainability and reducing noise from nearby highways. The Cottages is a collaborative project between CitySquare and other social service organizations that create housing solutions for the homeless.

“These small cottages need an energy-efficient product to keep residents and staff cool in the summer and warm in the winter in a sustainable, financially responsible way that also saves taxpayer funds. Spray foam insulation was a natural choice,” said Doug Brady, Vice President of Strategic Marketing at Demilec.

Each of the homes includes a kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom and are arranged around a communal green space and community center, which will include a clubhouse, computer lab, library and rooms for AA meetings, along with offices for social workers, case managers and medical staff.

Additionally, the community plans to seek LEED certification for its energy efficiency, sustainability and links to public and shared transportation for residents.
